CenterPointe Hospital opened its doors under its new management in April 2003 with inpatient psychiatric services for children and adolescents and a commitment to provide unparalleled behavioral health services as the region's only private, freestanding facility dedicated solely to the diagnosis, management and treatment of psychiatric and behavioral illnesses. Soon after its opening, CenterPointe readied itself for the June 2003 expansion of services to include a 20-bed acute care inpatient unit for adults . Within a month of expanding to include adult inpatient care, CenterPointe added new levels of care for that age group in July : a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults with a psychiatric or dual diagnosis (concurrent psychiatric and chemical dependency diagnoses).
With consideration for its widening geographic service area, the Hospital opened outpatient services in November 2003 in Washington, Mo ., to better serve the needs of its Franklin County patients. This location offered both partial (day) hospitalization and IOP treatment programs for adults with psychiatric or dual diagnoses.
The next year, 2004, proved to be a time of continued expansion and opportunities to add unique and necessary services to our growing continuum of behavioral health care. Just a few month's shy of CenterPointe's one-year anniversary under new local management, the continued demand for treatment prompted the February 2004 expansion of outpatient services to its South St. Louis County location where the programs mirrored those provided at the Washington location.
With extended attention and effort paid to addressing the needs of our adult patients, CenterPointe turned to its child and adolescent patient needs with the July 2004 opening of our Outpatient Clinic at the main Hospital's location in St. Charles. This expansion provided psychiatric and chemical dependency evaluation, medication management and treatment services by child and adolescent psychiatrists in an environment similar to a private practice setting. In addition, the Clinic offered a variety of therapeutic services provided by therapists also specializing in child and adolescent behavioral health needs.
Driven by a commitment to excellence and a growing regional need for behavioral health services, in October 2004 CenterPointe celebrated the expansion and renovation of the adult unit to 32-beds on an attractive, contemporary unit designed to more effectively meet our patients' treatment needs. Soon after, the Hospital celebrated yet another significant milestone in its expansion history: the December 2004 opening of its 20-bed adult residential chemical dependency unit. Based on a medically managed, 12-step treatment approach, the private facility's residential program offered services previously unavailable to patients in the region.
Recognizing and addressing the unique and specialized needs of patients who are chronically and persistently mentally ill, CenterPointe opened its Progressive Partial Hospitalization Program at the St. Charles location in September 2005 and at the South St. Louis County outpatient location in January 2006 . The program offers progression from partial hospitalization to the less-restrictive outpatient level of care for patients who experience extended or life-long recurrences of their illnesses.
Looking to the Future
In Fall 2006, CenterPointe will introduce an evening adolescent intensive outpatient program at the St. Charles facility. In addition to psychiatric treatment, the program will offer a separate, specialized track to address chemical dependency in this age group. |
