TOPIC: The Effects of Mental Health Issues on the Family
DESCRIPTION: Mental health issues of one or more members of the family unit affect all members. This training will discuss how family members process/adapt in both maladaptive and positive ways to a member affected by mental illness. Participants will learn effective ways to en-gage and support the family even in the time constraints of program/insurance issues. Symptoms, treatment and caregiver burnout will also be addressed. Resources for family members will be provided

CEUs: 1.5 CEUs will be awarded to Missouri Social Workers, Counselors and Addiction Counselors at the completion of the lecture. A Certificate of Attendance verifying 1.5 clock hours will be awarded to other disciplines to submit to their respective licensing boards.
About the Presenter: Joanna Dalakos is a clinical social worker who has been in the mental health field since 2006. She received her training in New York State at Syracuse University. Since moving to St. Louis several years ago, Joanna has been providing home based counseling. She also has a new practice, St Louis Individual and Family Therapy, located in Brentwood, focusing on providing therapy to caregivers- both professionals and family caregivers.
Joanna Dalakos has been involved with NAMI throughout the years since the age of thirteen. The National Alliance for Mental Illness assisted Joanna and her family for close to 30 years throughout the journey of providing support to an immediate family member with a mental health diagnosis. Joanna Dalakos is a certified presenter for NAMI’s Family to Family Education Series which is an intensive 12 week/3 hour per session education/support group for family members.
In addition to her private practice, Joanna Dalakos works as a therapist providing short term counseling and community resource coordination to parents who have an infant in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cardinal Glennon. She has a certification in perinatal mental health counseling through Postpartum Support International.
