St. Charles, Missouri Premier Residential Treatment for Adolescents

CenterPointe Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri, is pleased to offer a residential program for adolescents who are struggling with substance use disorders and dual diagnosis concerns. In this program, young people can benefit from a wide range of therapies and services while receiving round-the-clock care in a supportive setting.

About Our Adolescent Residential Program

Located at our main campus in St. Charles, Missouri, our adolescent residential program serves young people ages 12-17 who have addictions to substances such as alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines.

We also support adolescents who have both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder, which is known as a dual diagnosis. In our residential program, adolescents who have a substance use disorder can receive support for a range of mental health concerns, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Depending on their individual needs, young people can enter our residential program by stepping down from a higher level of care or beginning care directly at the residential level.

Residential programming is a form of live-in, structured care that can allow adolescents to work toward recovery in a safe environment with the support of qualified professionals. In our program, the typical length of stay is 14-28 days, depending on a person’s needs and progress.

Therapeutic Approach

At CenterPointe Hospital, we understand how concerning adolescent substance abuse can be. We also know that young people can engage in substance use for a variety of reasons and may bring unique needs to the treatment process.

The Changing Pointe residential program for adolescents provides comprehensive, personalized support that can promote long-term healing for each person who receives care with us. We have found that treating adolescents in a holistic manner rather than just focusing on substance use can lead to the best care outcomes. Our holistic approach aims to address a young person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

In our adolescent residential program, we may help patients develop healthy coping strategies, engage in productive activities, and enhance their communication and relationship skills. We can also help adolescents understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors, with a focus on finding solutions.

Each adolescent works with a multidisciplinary team that brings expertise in treating both substance use disorders and mental health concerns. Adolescents may have regular contact with a psychiatrist in addition to participating in ongoing work with our dedicated therapists. A young person’s care experience may also involve working with other professionals, including physicians, nurses, and a registered dietitian.

Admissions Process

To start the admissions process, we recommend contacting our assessment staff for an initial phone conversation. The next step of the process typically involves visiting in person for a thorough assessment that can help us gain a deeper understanding of the young person’s needs. Our assessment team is available 24/7 to support prospective patients and their families.

As part of the assessment process, we may ask questions about the prospective patient’s substance use history, treatment history, medical and family history, relationships with family members and peer groups, school performance, and other physical and behavioral concerns they’re struggling with.

Upon admission to our program, our multidisciplinary team of professionals will create a personalized care plan that is designed to address the adolescent’s unique needs during their time at CenterPointe Hospital.

Continuing Care

From the moment an adolescent joins our program, we will begin working with them to plan for a successful discharge when residential care ends. We typically involve the patient, their family, and the treatment team in the discharge planning process.

Our goal is to help each young person move seamlessly on to the next stage of their healing journey, whether that involves stepping down to an outpatient program or accessing other support services.
