Programming Overview

At CenterPointe Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri, we carefully tailor our programming to suit individual needs. Our goal is to help you effectively cope with emotions and behaviors that may be preventing you from enjoying a healthy and fulfilling life.

In each of our programs, you can work closely with dedicated professionals. These skilled individuals may use multiple therapies and services to deliver focused support and help prepare you for ongoing success.

We offer services at multiple locations, including our main St. Charles campus and our outpatient locations in St. Louis, Missouri, and Maryville, Illinois. Our continuum of care includes:

  • Inpatient care for adolescents, adults, and senior adults who have behavioral health concerns
  • Residential programming for adolescents and adults who have a substance use disorder or a dual diagnosis

Everyone who receives care at CenterPointe Hospital follows an individualized care plan that is designed for them based on a detailed assessment of their needs.

Inpatient Programs

Our inpatient programs offer acute mental health and addiction care for adolescents, adults, and senior adults, including those who have a dual diagnosis. The typical length of stay in one of our inpatient programs is around seven to 10 days; however, a person may require more or less time depending on their individual needs.

At the inpatient level, we can support adolescents, adults, and senior adults who are struggling with the use of substances such as opioids, benzodiazepines, and alcohol. We also offer detox services for those who may need them. Patients typically remain in our detox program for seven to 10 days, during which time they can also participate in therapeutic programming.

In our adolescent inpatient program, which serves young people ages 12-17, we treat concerns such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, and the effects of trauma.

Our adult inpatient program offers acute care for people who are suffering from concerns like depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

For senior adults age 65 and older, we may provide care for depression, grief and loss, changes in sleep and eating patterns, marked personality changes, and other acute concerns.

Inpatient programming can include:

  • Basic medical care and medication management services
  • Group therapy and experiential therapy
  • Individual and family therapy sessions on an as-needed basis

Residential Programs

In our premier residential programs, adolescents ages 12-17 and adults age 18 and older can receive focused care for addictions to substances like alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines. We also support patients who have a dual diagnosis of a substance use disorder and a mental health concern.

Both programs have a typical length of stay of about 14-28 days and may include basic medical care, medication management services, and individual, family, and group therapies, depending on someone’s needs. We also offer experiential therapies, including activity therapy, yoga, and mindfulness skills.

Changing Pointe, our adolescent residential program, focuses on providing holistic care for patients, including helping them acquire the tools for long-term success. Our adult residential program provides patients with the chance to pursue their recovery goals in a safe and empowering environment. In our adult program, we also strive to deliver a whole-person approach to healing.

Intensive Outpatient Programs

Our IOPs offer structured support while providing the flexibility for clients to live at home and engage in daily commitments. Clients attend our IOPs three days a week for three hours a day and typically remain in the program for about four to six weeks.

Our IOPs incorporate modalities like DBT and CBT along with art therapy, psychoeducation, supportive therapies, and other interventions as appropriate. Medication management services and individual, family, and group therapies may be included in someone’s IOP care plan.

Across our main campus and outpatient locations, we provide IOP services that include:

  • Adolescent IOP services for young people ages 13-17 who have mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Various adult IOPs addressing a wide range of behavioral health concerns
  • An IOP for senior adults who have mental illnesses and an IOP for senior adults who may need care for mental illnesses, addictions, or dual diagnosis concerns

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

For adults age 18 and older who have opioid addictions, we may offer MAT. MAT combines prescription medications such as Suboxone and Vivitrol with a counseling component that can support long-term recovery.

We can offer MAT for patients at all levels of care and at each of our service locations.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

We also offer electroconvulsive therapy, a procedure that applies a short electrical stimulation to the brain while a patient is under general anesthesia. This process, which triggers a brief seizure, can help improve symptoms of certain mental illnesses.

Adults age 18 and older may participate in ECT at both the inpatient and outpatient levels at our main location. Our ECT services are tailored to each patient’s needs and delivered by experienced professionals.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

TMS services are available for adults ages 22-70 who are suffering from major depressive disorder. TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, which can alleviate depression symptoms. We offer TMS services on an outpatient basis.
